At the initiative of the Interdisciplinary
Council of the Liaison Centre for Foreign Graduates of Polish Universities
a new legal Foundation was established and registered in the District Court
of the City of Warsaw on March 20, 1997. The Foundation, known as
"Polish Education for Foreigners - Copernicus" has the following charter
aims:

the establishment, promotion, and support
of ongoing contact and scientific and technical cooperation in the areas
of culture, tourism, and business between the foreign graduates of Polish
institutions of higher education and Poland;

Propagation abroad of information concerning
the Polish system of higher education and conditions for studying thereat;

Promotion of the activities carried
out by the Liaison Centre for Foreign Graduates of Polish Universities
of the University of £ód¼;

Editorial assistance for the above
Centre, especially in the preparation, editing, and publication of the
journal KONTAKT;
-
Support for the data bank already established
by the Centre containing valuable information about the Polish educational
system, Polish scientific and scholarly achievements, and a list of foreign
graduates of Polish institutions of higher education.

Maintenance of ongoing contact with
the alumni clubs of foreign graduates of Polish universities established
abroad.
In the course of realizing its charter
aims, the Foundation intends to broaden the already-existing contacts between
the Liaison Centre for Foreign Graduates of Polish Universities and the
above-mentioned alumni clubs of foreign graduates abroad, as well as to
organize meetings and international conferences and seminars with the participation
of foreign graduates of Polish universities, provide stipends and other
forms of assistance to foreign students, and to maintain permanent contacts
with national and international non-governmental organizations and agencies
devoted to culture and the sciences.
In order to realize its aims the
Foundation may also aid and support other organizations and legal entities
whose aims and activities coincide with those of the Foundation.
The Foundation's income will be
derived primarily from gifts, contributions, devises, donations, and subsidies
from both natural persons and other legal entities, as well as income earned
from its organization of public activities.
Individuals and other legal entities
who make donations to the Foundation will be designated as official sponsors
of the Foundation, if they so desire.
The Foundations Organs are:

The Founders' Assembly, which
is a supervisory and advisory organ. Among its most important competences
are the appointment and dismissal of members of the Executive Management
Board as well as the President and Vice presidents of the Executive Management
Board, appointment of a Director, and appointment of members to the Foundation's
Program Council.

The Executive Management Board,
appointed by the Founders' Assembly, manages the affairs of the Foundation
and acts as its legal representative externally. It elaborates annual
and long-term activity plans and files reports of the Foundation's activities,
manages its property, accepts donations and charitable contributions, and
ratifies the merger of the Foundation with other companies or Foundations.
